Christmas fudge is a delicious treat kids will love making during the festive season. With only two ingredients plus some festive decoration it couldn’t be easier to make.
This easy recipe for Christmas fudge is a fun recipe kids will love helping with during the festive season. With only 2 ingredients it’s really simple to make, and then you can go wild with lots of Christmasy decoration.
Whether you decorate the fudge with some Christmas sprinkles, (the sort that are plentiful in the supermarket at this time of year), or make some cute mini snowmen, it’s a fun way for kids to go wild and use their creativity.
This basic recipe is the same as the one as we use all year round but it’s the perfect way of getting your kids busy in the kitchen during the festive season. If you pop the fudge into individual gift bags you can then give it as a lovely homemade gift to friends and family.
I love making fudge using this easy no-boil method. Condensed milk fudge is a much easier and much safer way of making fudge as there’s no need to heat or boil it to a certain temperature. This means it’s a lot safer for children to get involved with (I don’t think boiling sugar and kids are a great mix). It’s also a more fool proof way of making fudge – there’s no worry about getting it to set properly.
How can kids help to make Christmas fudge?
Homemade fudge using this no-boil method is really simple, which means it’s a great recipe for kids to help with. In fact, it’s so easy that older children (as long as you can trust them around a hot cooker), can make the whole thing themselves.
Once your kids have measured out and broken up the chocolate they can help to melt it together with the condensed milk. Melting and mixing the fudge all together perhaps isn’t the best job for very young children or toddlers but older children who can be trusted to be safe around a hot pan can help with this job.
Once the fudge mixture has been made, your kids can help pour the fudge into the tin and spread it all out. And then the fun part of this part is the decoration. Even very young children can help to add the sprinkles and mini marshmallow snowmen. It’s a great chance for them to go wild and take charge of this step!
Can you make fudge in a microwave?
Yes. You can make this fudge in a microwave or even a slow cooker if you have one. I prefer to use a double boiler as we can heat everything very gently and see it all come together, but it’ll work in a microwave just as well.
To make microwave fudge, simply put the chocolate pieces and condensed milk into a microwavable bowl and heat it at 80% power in 30 second intervals. Stir the fudge in between each 30 second burst and stop heating it when everything has come together and melted.
You can also make fudge in a slow cooker. To find out how, check out our slow cooker fudge recipe.
How long does fudge keep?
This fudge will keep for a week or two in an airtight container, which makes it perfect for homemade gifts for friends and family during the festive season.
If you want to keep the fudge for longer, you can make it in advance and freeze it for a few months. Simply wrap it well in cling film or tin foil and pop it in a freezer bag or airtight container. Thaw it at room temperature overnight before serving.
What chocolate should I use?
Use the best milk chocolate you can afford. With a simple fudge like this, it’s only going to be as good as your ingredients. The same goes for the condensed milk. We’ve used supermarket own brand condensed milk as well as Carnation condensed milk to make fudge and think you can certainly taste the difference.

397g tin condensed milk

Mini marshmallows
Edible writing pen
Christmas sprinkles
How to make Christmas fudge
Line a square 8 inch (20cm) baking tin with baking or parchment paper. We find the easiest way to do this is to cut a long strip the width of the tin and place it in the tin one way, then do the same ther other way. If you leave a bit of baking paper overhanging it will be easier to remove the fudge once it’s set.
Melt the fudge ingredients together
Start by getting your kids to weigh the chocolate, then break it up into small pieces and add it to a heatproof bowl.
Pour in the whole tin of condensed milk.
Set your bowl over a pan of simmering water to melt the chocolate and condensed milk together in (ie a double boiler)
Keep stirring everything with a spatula or a wooden spoon until the chocolate has melted and it comes together in a nice smooth consistency. If you have older children that are safe around a cooker, they may be able to help to stir the fudge, although you might need to hold the bowl steady. I wouldn’t recommend little kids helping with this step as it can get a bit hot and you need to be particularly careful as the bowl does get warm.
Make the Christmas fudge
Pour the fudge mixture into your prepared baking tin. Using the back of a spoon or your spatula, get your kids to smooth the top and press it down into the corners.
Get your kids to add the Christmas sprinkles to the top of the fudge.
To make the mini snowmen, we used an edible pen to dot on some buttons and eyes to two mini marshmallows then added them to the top of the fudge and gently pressed them in.
Leave the fudge to set.
Cover your fudge in cling film/glad wrap or tin foil and leave it somewhere cool to set. Once it has cooled down a enough you can put it in the fridge for a few hours to set completely.
When the fudge has firmed up, remove it from the baking tin, cut it into small pieces with a sharp knife (this is a job for grown ups).
Serve and enjoy!
